Miami, FL. (June 28, 2024) – Celebrating the 15th anniversary of the release of Jenni Rivera‘s iconic song “Ovarios,” Jenni Rivera Estate, releases a new version of this emblematic song, which has been described as a statement of strength and female empowerment. This new version of “Ovarios” debuts a day after Jenni Rivera was honored with a posthumous star on the prestigious Hollywood Walk of Fame; the emotional event was held yesterday, Thursday, June 27, in Los Angeles.
Produced by Luciano Luna, this new version of “Ovarios” is a perfect blend of the original studio track. About working with Luna on this version, Johnny,Jenni Rivera‘s youngest son, said: “He is a great producer and music writer who we admire very much for how he mixes my mom’s voice and specializes in Mexican Music. On the other hand, we are very happy that the re-release of ‘Ovarios’ is the day after Jenni Rivera’s star unveiling on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.”
The metaphor of “Ovarios,” originally released in July 2009, was used by Jenni to symbolize courage and strength, qualities traditionally associated with masculinity. This release reclaims the word and uses it to empower and capable women. For the original release, Jenni Rivera shared the following words:
“Today is a very important day because it is the day the world realizes what true ovaries are, big ovaries, ovaries that are part of the Super Delux Jenni album. Do you want to know what I’m talking about? I am simply responding to the gossip, the criticism, the haters, the people who are not happy that my audience loves me. So, because I am very ‘ovariuda,’ meaning my ovaries are very big, I said to myself: we have to compose a song, we are going to record it, and we are going to offer it to all that audience that has ovaries as big as mine: women… Those women who have ovaries as big as mine.”
Rivera was always known for her banda and norteño musical style, and for being a prominent figure in the Regional Mexican genre. She used “Ovarios” to address the criticisms and challenges she faced as a woman in the music industry. It was a direct response to those who tried to undermine her position and authority. With a defiant attitude, Jenni mocked the rumors and bad press that circulated about her in this song, showing indifference towards the criticism. The song is an anthem for women fighting to maintain their place in male-dominated spaces, and Jenni Rivera established herself as a role model for female resilience and autonomy.
