Miami, FL. (November 15, 2022)– Colombian icon Carlos Vives receives 2023 GRAMMY® nomination for “Best Tropical Album” for his highly acclaimed most recent album Cumbiana II.
Cumbiana II is the second album that emerged from the expansive and unprecedented exploration of Carlos Vives, to make modern music from the percussive and melodic sounds of ancient Colombia, which is in the origins and the evolution of cumbia, the convergence of rhythms and cultures that he defines symbolically as “everything we are.” This album includes great collaborations such as “Baloncito Viejo” with Camilo, “Babel” with Argentine artist Fito Páez, “El Teke Teke” with Black-Eyed Peas and Play-N-Skillz and more.
Most recently, Vives was announced as a special guest for this Christmas season with Disney+. They are set bring the magic of Madrigal family with an unprecedented concert, “ENCANTO at the Hollywood Bowl,” recorded this past weekend. The iconic venue was transformed into the magical house of the successful movie “Encanto” with the entire cast of actors who gave life to the characters with their voices. “Encanto at the Hollywood Bowl” will be available on Disney+ this coming December 28.
Vives is additionally starring in new Disney+ Original series, “El Club De Los Graves.” The Colombian series will premiere worldwide on Disney+ with the first 5 episodes. The show is centered around an eccentric music teacher, played by Vives, and a group of students from an institute specializing in musical training.
Recorded in different locations in Colombia, the new series features all original songs composed by Vives that cover different typical rhythms of the country, highlighting regional cultural values. All songs will be available on DSP’s upon release.
