DY Named 2026 Latin Recording Academy Person Of The Year™

(October 30, 2026) – Global music icon Daddy Yankee has released his exuberant new studio album, LA POSTAL out now LISTEN HERE. The Puerto Rico-born artist, entrepreneur, and visionary has consistently innovated intergenerationally, upholding a tradition of breaking down barriers and blending styles. LA POSTAL is everything fans could hope for and more from the return of DY.
After three decades DY is still innovating on LA POSTAL, his first proper concept album. He threaded the central theme of love through all 15 tracks, tying them together into one clear and cohesive vision. The phrase, LA POSTAL, translates to “Postcard”—and these songs are letters of love, signed, sealed, and sent directly from DY’s heart. As well as romantic, familiar and self-love, it is also his love letter to Latin music itself.
The resplendent lead single, “Pokito” sees DY collaborating with Indian phenomenon Diljit Dosanjh. As if tracing a direct line from Puerto Rico to Punjab, the track hinges on a frenetic bounce accented by an anxious loop. DY and Diljit lock into a jaw-dropping volley, pushing one another to keep up as the tempo accelerates. Watch the new music video for the innovative track directed by Stillz and shot in Puerto Rico HERE. “Pokito” follows “BOTZ,” the first track unveiled from LA POSTAL. Watch the “BOTZ” video HERE.

Speaking about “Pokito,” DY explains, “I always believed that Punjabi music and reggaeton would make for a great marriage. Diljit came to Puerto Rico, and we recorded it face-to-face, and that was truly special. Lyrically, the song is about working hard and discipline is part of self-love. We come from different parts of the world, but we understand the same hunger. Everything we’ve built is ‘Poquito, Poquito’ or ‘Step by step’.”
With LA POSTAL, DY has crafted a cross-cultural journey by co-mingling Afro, Caribbean and Punjabi sounds with the signature style that forever cemented him as “The King of Reggaeton.” He wrote the album whenever inspiration struck, recording in the moment and going so far as to turn “anything into a vocal booth.” In addition to personally producing much of the record, he worked with the likes of Bizarrap, Cardi B, Danny Ocean, De La Rose, Diljit Dosanjh, Luny Tunes and Myke Towers. Most significantly, a portion of the production originated from his son and sought-after producer Jeremy Ayala González [Myke Towers, Duki, Bad Gyal].
DY comments, “I didn’t want to make an album about love as a fantasy. I wanted to show love as a force: the love between two people. I wanted to tell the real story of love: what we experience, what we feel, and what we often don’t know how to express. A love that isn’t always perfect or fake. A love that is raw and real, with its moments of happiness, its contradictions, its wounds, its goodbyes, and its healing. This album comes from the real experiences we go through in a relationship: true love and true heartbreak, without filters and without pretending. It talks also about the love of family, the discipline of loving yourself and the love that comes from having faith. These are stories I have lived, witnessed and carried with me. The sounds travel from Puerto Rico to Africa to India and beyond, but the heart of the album is universal. Wherever you come from, love speaks your language.”
