San Juan, Puerto Rico (May 13, 2026) – Merengue icon Elvis Crespo took part in the celebration yesterday, Tuesday, honoring Puerto Rican brothers José Ortiz and Irad Ortiz, who made history at the Kentucky Derby by finishing in first and second place, respectively, conquering one of the most prestigious horse races in the world.
“It was an honor and a privilege to be part of the welcome celebration for two great Puerto Ricans who made history at the Kentucky Derby, the Ortiz brothers. It was incredibly emotional to see our island united in celebration of the talent, discipline, and Puerto Rican spirit they represent. It was very special to be able to bring music to a night filled with pride and celebration,” expressed Elvis Crespo prior to his appearance.
The celebration took place in the town of Trujillo Alto, where family members, friends, and hundreds of fans gathered to honor the outstanding Puerto Rican jockeys. The celebration, which included a horseback parade through the municipality, culminated with a surprise musical appearance by Elvis Crespo, who personally congratulated the Ortiz brothers and got the crowd dancing to some of his biggest hits, including “Tu Sonrisa,” “Tatuaje,” “Píntame,” “Nuestra Canción,” and “Suavemente,” as well as recent hits like “Me Mataron” and “Abeja Blanca.”
